Rochester, MN Trader Joe's Bordeaux Wine Selection Part 2


Chateau Sociando-Mallet 2020 Sylvie Gautreau

This wine is coming from one of the most respected properties in the Haute-Medoc. The vines are 35 years old on average and are harvested by hand. This wine is aged for 12 months in 90% new barrels. The new barrels will impart more oak notes to the wine. This wine a blend of 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Cabernet Franc. This wine is suitable for aging.

Chateau La Lagune 2020 Haute-Medoc Grand Cru Classe


This Chateau was built between 1730 to 1734. A powerful wine full of dark fruit. Think black currant, cassis and dark berries complimented by tobacco, earth, and spicy oak. This one will age beautifully and will be ready to drink in a couple of years. This blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petite Verdot.

Chateau Ormes De Pez St-Estephe 2020

This highly rated wine coming from St-Estephe and has been part of the Medoc wine landscape since the 18th century. The Cazes family has owned the Chateau since 1940. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest of Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc. After fermentation, the wine will age in oak barrels for 16 months. This is a powerful wine with notes of cherries, berries, and spices. This wine will age beautifully and will be ready to start drinking in the next couple of years. Chateau Grand-Puy Ducasse 2020 Grand Cru Classes

Another very highly rated wine. This wine got its start in 1675 when Arnaud Ducasse purchased a "modest" house on the banks of the river in Pauillac. In 1855 it would earn the prestigious Grand Cru Classes. This is a full bodied red with lots of nice layers. Aromas and tastes lean towards black currants, cassis, ripe black fruits, tobacco, chocolate, and oak. This wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet and 45% Merlot. This is another wine that will benefit from some aging.

Chateau LaTour-Martillac 2020 Pessac-Leognan

This wine comes from the Pessac-Leognan region of Bordeaux where the whole idea of fine red Bordeaux wine was launched in the late 1660's. This estate is run by fourth generation wine owners. Everything has been upgraded and this vintage is the first with the new cellar and vat room. This wine is full bodied with lots of fruit and flint. This wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petite Verdot.

Chateau Lynch-Moussas 2020 Pauillac

This is the second time we are seeing Chateau Lynch-Moussas in the guide. The 2019 was featured in Part 1 of the Trader Joe's Bordeaux guide. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot. Aromas and tastes are dominated by black fruit and oak. While you could drink this medium-bodied vintage now it would be advantageous to hold for a couple more years.
